Lachlan Smith: “When I left Australia, I never thought I would play cricket again.”

Growing up in Australia, Lachlan Smith struggled to reconcile his sexuality with his love of sport. Even after moving to England and being out for years, it was difficult for him to accept it was possible. Now though, he is investigating the possibility of starting an LGBT+ cricket team in the West Midlands.

The holy grail around most discussions of LGBT+ in sport is that we don’t have an out footballer in the English Premier League. I think that would be a big step, but I don’t think that is the magical cure all for homophobia.
